The Boards of MacLeod Construction Ltd and MACEL are delighted to announce that they have agreed a contract for the capital build of the MACPool Redevelopment Project.
After a rigorous tender evaluation process via Public Contracts Scotland, MacLeods emerged as the clear winner for the work, which forms the major part of the £1.6M capital build reported on in the Argyllshire Advertiser of 29th January. When complete, the MACPool Activity Hub will include an all-access café, a soft play area for small children and a range of multi-purpose rooms for Community use. In addition, the swimming pool changing facilities will be improved and expanded to allow easy access for users of all abilities.
MacLeods will start work on site on 15th March and the building work is planned to take around 6 months, with the Pool re-opening in October and the new café and other dry side areas planned for a grand opening in time for Christmas. Operation of the Riverside Rascals Nursery will continue during the construction process. Argyll and Bute Citizens Advice Bureau is in the process of establishing a new main office base in Lochgilphead.
Kenny MacLeod, Chairman of MacLeod Construction Limited said “We are delighted to have been awarded this Contract.
This will guarantee work for our local workforce and we are looking forward to working with MACEL on this venture.”
Kim Ritchie, Chair of the MACEL Board said “We are delighted to be working with MacLeods on this exciting project. I’m so pleased that a local company with a proud history of supporting MACPool was the clear winner of the tender process”
MACPool is of course currently closed due to lockdown restrictions and as these are unlikely to be lifted before the start of construction, sadly the pool will not be able to re-open until the construction work has been completed. Fiona MacAlpine, MACPool manager said “The team were really disappointed when we once again had to close our doors at Christmas, especially as the measures we had put in place to ensure everyone’s safety during the pandemic had been so well received by our customers. But on a positive note, the current restrictions and closure have allowed us to bring forward the work for the redevelopment and we look forward with excitement to welcoming our customers back later this year to the new MACPool Activity Hub.”
