New for 2015 on Thursday mornings 11am to 12noon MACPOOL will be running Hydro Therapy sessions.
These will be drop in sessions for all members of the community. Sessions are led by swimming teachers and helpers and the pool is able to offer them at the normal swim price of £3.80 or £2.80 for Leisure link card holders (Leisure link cards can be applied for at the pool for anyone claiming benefits). This has been made possible by successful grant funding from the Mid Argyll Health and Wellbeing network and The Stafford Trust. If you need a carer they come for free.
The sessions are perfect for those who want to increase confidence in the water and improve their swimming technique. Exercise in water is highly recommended as it reduces stress on joints and is ideal for all kinds of rehabilitation. The sessions will cover basic low impact movement, relaxation, swimming technique, social interaction leading to a sense of wellbeing in a calm public free environment.
The sessions are suitable for all levels of mobility and water exercise opens up new opportunities to many different groups of people. Water’s buoyancy virtually eliminates the effects of gravity – supporting 90% of the body’s weight for reduced impact and greater flexibility. Water acts as a cushion for the body’s weight-bearing joints, reducing stress on muscles, tendons and ligaments. As a result aquatic workouts are low impact and can greatly reduce the injury and strain common to most land-based exercises.
MACPOOL looks forward to welcoming you to these new sessions – why not come and give it a go?
